How to choose the correct Microsoft 365 plan when migrating your emails to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online

Introduction

This is our first article in a series on migrating your emails to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online.

To move your emails to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online you need to subscribe to a Microsoft 365 Business Plan. Lots of self-employed people and family run small businesses already have a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription or a Microsoft 365 Family subscription and they have installed the desktop apps of Word, Excel Outlook etc on to their computers. If this applies to you then you don’t need to cancel anything just because you are going to purchase a business plan.

Microsoft 365 Exchange Online is available in several Microsoft 365 Business plans. To choose the right package answer the following two questions:

1. Do you need Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook?
2. Do you need Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint?

If you have answered No to both of these questions then you need Microsot 365 Business Exchange Online (Plan 1).

If you don't need Microsoft applications but do need Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and/or OneDrive as well as Exchange Online then you need Microsoft 365 Business Basic.

If you don't have desktop applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook then you need Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
